In Step With the Lord

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.

Soon after I was born again, the Lord put me into a deep sleep and gave me a vivid dream which I've never forgotten. It spoke of His guidance and protection.

At first, I was walking through a building that was filled with off-duty soldiers – who I instinctively knew were the enemy. They were sitting around smoking and playing cards and I was able to walk right past them - they didn't see me at all. Then I went down a staircase where there were still more soldiers on either side. When I got to the bottom there was a river of molten lava bubbling away and on the other side of it was the resurrected Jesus, clothed in white robes.

Jesus held out his arm and beckoned me to come to him – but how was I to get across? There was no way I could cross it or go around it, and I couldn't go back past the enemy soldiers.

He beckoned a second time as much as to say, ‘Come on, come to me’. I gingerly put a foot forward and as I did a steppingstone made of light emerged from the lava and I could stand on it. I stepped forward again and another one appeared for me to walk on. This happened two or three times and I really wanted to reach Jesus, but before I had got across to the other side I woke up.

For me, this dream was a message and meant that though I would walk in the world surrounded by enemies, darkness, and facing hazards or obstacles in my path if I would walk with Jesus - the living Word, he would light my way through the storms of life.

God’s word illuminates our path and contains everything we need to negotiate life. Since Jesus is the word made flesh (John 1:14), we are only to keep looking at Him to know what to do in every situation. He is the exact representation of the Father (Col 1:15) so if we want to know God’s will about something we only have to look at Jesus. He came to earth as a man so that we could understand the true, loving nature of God. So, we know that God loves us, heals us, gives us good gifts, and wants only the best for us.

Brothers and sisters, keep looking at Jesus, follow the living word and He will guide your paths. He is your light in the darkness.
